RTG At Cherbourg

A French National Railways RTG turbotrain has just departed the railway station in the port of Cherbourg for its run to St. Lazare station in Paris.

Amtrak purchased six RTGs of this same design in the early 1970s for service in the Midwest. The trains saw service in the Chicago-St. Louis, Chicago-Milwaukee and Chicago-Detroit corridors.

Seven U.S.-built turbotrains from the Rohr Corporation incorporated design elements of the French trainsets in a different carbody design.

These sets introduced turbo service to the "Empire Corridor" in New York State, and were later joined by several of the French trains rebuilt to the newer design.
