Princess Elizabeth at Bristol Temple Meads Station.

Stanier Princess Royal class pacific, 6201, "Princess Elizabeth", awaits departure with the "Welsh Marches Express", at Bristol Temple Meads Station.
The train was from Southampton to Bristol, diesel hauled, Bristol to Shrewsbury, and return, steam hauled, and Bristol to Southampton, diesel hauled. The steam hauled section was a round trip of 220 miles.
With a new GPS gizmo at my disposal, I was able to accurately monitor the speed of the train. There was plenty of cruising in the 70s, with a maximum of 77.3 mph reached on the return leg.
Not bad for a 74 year old loco.
